Harvey Milk was right!
In solidarity with other pride demonstrations that have occurred throughout the country this weekend, the International Socialist Organization in Ithaca would like to invite all to come to a rally to demand:
On the national level:
• Repeal the Defense of Marriage Act!
LGBTQ people and their partners should receive the same federal marriage tax benefits, hospital visitation rights, and other rights that come with marriage!
• Pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act!
LGBTQ people should no longer face discrimination in their workplaces! We must demand a version of the bill which includes gender identity!
On the state level:
• Dignity for All Students Act!
This bill creates a set of policies and procedures schools must follow in order to ensure “all students in public schools an environment free of harassment and discrimination based on actual or perceived race, national origin, ethnic group, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender or sex.” To learn more, see http://www.bullypolice.org/ny_law.html
• Gender Expression Non-Discrimination Act!
This bill has already passed in the state assembly. It would ensure that “transgender people are protected from discrimination in areas of everyday life”, and “would add gender identity or expression to the state's hate crimes law.” To learn more, see http://assembly.state.ny.us/Press/20090421a/
• Same-sex marriage in NYS!
